Abstract:
Creativity has a fundamental role in the individual and professional development of students, especially during the higher education stage. The aim of this study was to analyze the level of creativity possessed by second-year students from the physical activity and sports degree at the beginning of the body expression subject. The sample was made of 49 participants (aged 19 to 38 years old) from both genders and sports backgrounds (team sports or individual sports). The Creative Intelligence test (CREA) was applied as an evaluative method to gather the data. The results were analyzed and compared by gender and type of sporting background. Statistical analyses were conducted with the SPSS ® (v26.0; IBM®, Armonk, NY, USA). It was noted that women obtained a higher score than men in the creative levels. Regarding the differences between sports backgrounds, individual sports practitioners got small leverage in the mean score in comparison to team sports players. Overall, the participants had obtained a general direct score mean of 23.12 and standard deviation of 7.19 and were equally classified in the low and medium levels of creativity. Not even one subject reached the highest level of creativity in this test. These results may be related to the low development of creativity within Spanish educational curricula and it shows the urge to act more in this field.
