Abstract:
Project Lingolink is an innovative method of systematic interdisciplinary vocabulary development using the Rule of 3.
Vocabulary development has the highest correlation with school success. Yet, teachers spend less than 1.4% of their day on vocabulary development. Systematic vocabulary development has shown to increase achievement across subject areas. A study done in school districts in the United States showed the increase in test scores when students were directly taught vocabulary development for 20 minutes a day across subject areas or two ten minute periods a day.

Vocabulary development is subject-related and inter-subject related. Mathematics has more vocabulary words for students to learn than any other subject area. Therefore, using a tiered method for identifying vocabulary words across subject areas increases students achievement not only in one subject area but across subject disciplines. An interdisciplinary approach that actively involves learners in talking about, analyzing and creatively producing word meaning has significant positive results.

Scores for students learning English as a second language increased dramatically on standardized tests increased dramatically after systematic vocabulary development using the Rule of 3. Students in matched classes at ten schools were tested on the Peabody Vocabulary Test. The students who were given systematic vocabulary development daily outperformed matched schools with the effect size of +.19.

The United States Office of Education has funded Project Lingolink as an innovative method to increase school achievement. As a result of this grant an innovative way of training teachers both online and on ground in Saturday Immersion seminars has been developed. This seminar will address the training of teachers using the innovation of the Rule of 3 and the research data on the efficacy of the innovation using research data and statistics,
