Abstract:
Life and health protection courses are aimed at educating pupils in this area, shaping their patriotic awareness, completing a system of their skills and habits to protect human life and health. They contribute to increasing the physical fitness and mental resilience of pupils and later of students. In Slovakia, they were introduced by Act No. 248/2008 Coll. in paragraph 4, where the main goals of this education are given. The pupil acquires the required competences by implementing a cross-cutting theme - Protection of life and health, which has become a compulsory part of education and is introduced at the level of upper secondary education ISCED 3.1.1. The issue of protection of life and health in Slovakia is compulsory in high schools and is implemented through subjects of the state education program in the form of exercises and courses. In the past, the subject matter focused on the protection of life and health was part of the subject Protection of human and nature.

Nowadays, there are no teaching materials or a textbook that would address the issue and therefore there is a situation in which for the management of high schools is unclear the content of individual topics recommended by the State Pedagogical Institute of the Slovak Republic. The content of the subject matter in the courses is primarily focused on managing situations arising from industrial risks and environmental accidents, traffic accidents and natural disasters. The course helps to cope with unfavorable conditions in situations arising from the influence of other power or terrorism against citizens of state. The cross-sectional issue of the life and health protection course is implemented in separate thematic units with content focused on solving tasks after emergencies, civil protection, health training, stay and movement in nature, sports, etc.

The need for education in this field is clear in the Czech Republic, although without legislative support.

The article contains description, analysis and comparison of the content of courses realized at secondary schools. The analysis will be done in the form of a survey of study programs at secondary schools. At the same time, the legislation of the Ministry of Education will be analyzed. Similar courses will be analyzed abroad. Based on the analysis and own experience of the implemented programs, the article will contain optimal suitable structure of life and health protection courses. The article outlines the curriculum of new life and health protection courses, based on the experience of the lecturers in the pilot course already conducted in 2018. At the same time, it describes possible way of teaching and possible practical exercises in courses.
