Abstract:
This article is based upon data which have been gathered within the MOTFAL European Project (Mobile Technologies for Ad-hoc Learning). The MOTFAL Project focuses on context-centred learning and the use of mobile technologies. It presents itself as a research project which intends to evaluate, to assess and to analyse the possibilities of mobile technology used in teaching-learning processes (such as PDA, GPS, digital cameras, digital video cameras...), in schools from different countries, as well as their use in communication and exchange of information between participant schools. The main goal has been to experience the degree of implementation and use of digital mobile technologies in teaching-learning processes based upon understanding. Because of that, our research has adopted the so-called teaching for understanding model as a pedagogical framework. The project has been developed in two rural schools, in the 1st and 2nd school year of Secondary Education, with students aged 13-16. During the project several mobile technologies were used (digital cameras, GPS, pen-drives, GPS cards, notebooks) as well as non-mobile (school computers, scanners, printers), and some other alternative means (textbooks and field work registers). Finally, the pedagogical operation theatres were two, basically: a botanic enclave (flora and vegetation in Bolonia-Tarifa), and an archaeological one (Roman ruins in Baelo Claudia, and othe archaeological remains).
