Abstract:
Mass media plays a big role in the life of the society. In news reports, there is a tendency to attract a reader’s attention with the help of emotionally colored words. Emotionally colored words manifest a person's attitude to a certain subject, expression, national thinking and perception of the world. Emotionally colored vocabulary poses a challenge in translation training, as it is a rather complex system. When teaching translation of emotionally colored words in news reports, students should be made aware of a number of challenges that they may face, and some of these challenges are the subject of this research. This paper offers an overview of the major issues of translation of emotionally coloured words in a news report. It briefly presents the definition of the emotionally coloured word, its functions and key characteristics. It discusses a theoretical distinction between emotionality and emotivity.
