Abstract:
In the course of the reforms of the Latvian education system and the introduction of new principles of competency-based education, a new school subject “Drama” was introduced into the educational standard. The present study considers the suggested model of a new academic subject, the content of the standard and the allocation of thematic blocks in accordance with the age specificities of school-children. Particular attention is paid to new teaching methods and understanding of theatricalization and dramatization. The study is based on content analysis of the programme with orientation onto the following indicators: creativity, theater, drama. The practical part of the study is devoted to a sociological survey of teachers about their attitude towards the new subject and the suggested standard, as well as the assessment of the new subject in the public context. As an example, several methodological techniques that focus on the interdisciplinary nature of mastering the subject of “Drama” at school are given.
