Abstract:
Human activities, including fossil fuel usage, and mainly forest destruction, agriculture, stock-farming and transportation, amplify the emission of Green House Effect pollutants, thus intensifying Climate Change. In order for the students to realize atmospheric phenomena, this paper presents the importance of school-based meteo station that has been assembled with the contribution of high school students, as a part of environmental educational activities.

By the participation in such activities, students try to explain procedures in the atmosphere, to study weather mechanism and finally to correspond all the above with local interest environmental issues.

This meteo station consists an important “hands-on learning” educational tool, aiming to environmental knowledge, educational interventions and scientific purposes, not to mention the importance of visits from other schools, as a means of improving active involvement, not only on behalf of the students but the whole society as well. This will facilitate the so-called “opening” of the school to the society.
