Abstract:
In this paper we will focus on the possibilities of using artwork when working with preschool children. The main aim of this study is to verify a set of suggested artistic activities in pedagogical practice, through which a child becomes acquainted with the artworks of some artists, is able to understand these works of art and interpret them. Other aim is to find out how teachers perceive the use of artwork in kindergarten and what is their experience with it.
We obtained the research data through qualitative research. The data collection of this research was based on participant observations and interviews with preschool children and their teachers. The research was carried out in a selected kindergarten of the Zlín Region (Czech Republic).
The data gathered on the basis of participant observations and interviews show that children have a natural interest in art, artwork, and work with them, an accidental association of memories is typical as part of interpretations. Children are able to interpret particular artworks, both visually and verbally, based on individual learning of language and communication competence and also on the basis of an understanding of the visual language.
Interviews with teachers imply a lack of experience with the realization of activities for the use of artwork or the preference of another field of artistic education. The presented set of activities is motivational for them and opens up another dimension in the field of education - how to develop preschool children in all aspects. Keywords:
