Abstract:
Education in the 21st century applies a vast number of technological tools and many of them are part of Web 2.0. These technologies used with pedagogical purposes enable information access and its manipulation as well as interaction and collaboration. Therefore, including these resources in the learning process contribute to the enhancement of different skills. The present study is undertaken in order to engage a group of undergraduate students at an Ecuadorian university in reading and writing in a foreign language using social media.
This action research is carried out in the context of an EFL class. Its aim is to promote reading different social networks posts to search information about a specific topic in the target language. A group of students with an elementary level were required to determine a topic of interest, get to know more about it using social media and create a final artifact to display their findings. The researchers collect data from field notes, questionnaires and interviews.
As a result, researchers develop a plan to promote theses skills in an EFL class based on the use of Web 2.0 and students’ feedback to get to improve it. The students get engaged to use the target language to get to know more about topics of their interests and become producers of new contents. Keywords:
