Abstract:
The FutureING concept proposes a learning approach that uses game-based learning in engineering education to address and improve employability skills. In it, students play two subsequent game modules accompanied by tutoring sessions before and after each game. This concept has been employed, tested and improved over the last four years. Recently, a web-based platform has been added to connect all the parts. The content of the platform includes videos with interactive quizzes on the learning content to be taught as part of the course as well as gamification elements to encourage interaction with the content. In addition to that it connects the games with the platform by granting bonuses in the games to students that interact with the content on the platform. This module was used for the first time in the winter semester of 23/24 in combination with the games. This paper evaluates its use and thus examines whether the addition should be considered helpful and useful or superfluous. In addition to that, further development steps for the platform as well as the whole FutureING concept are derived from the results.
