Abstract:
This study aimed to develop a framework for effective online corporate training by examining adult learning theories and surveying professionals in a corporate environment. A review of relevant literature on adult learning theories was conducted, and conclusions were drawn from the theories and models examined. A survey was then developed and disseminated to 81 professionals working in a South African professional services firm. The responses were analysed and contrasted with the adult learning theories to identify key aspects of effective online corporate training. The study concludes with a framework that highlights five broad aspects of online corporate training that should be considered for it to be effective: self-directedness, prior experiences, relevance to the learner's role, usefulness and the current learning environment of the learner's business unit and the company as a whole. The framework serves as a benchmark for effective online corporate training in a corporate learning environment.
