Abstract:
The numerous scandals and examples of business misbehaviours during the last years have attracted public attention to the role of business higher education in these problems. The literature wisdom is unanimous highlighting the impact of individual academic training in the organizational running of companies and institutions. Managers' attitudes and behaviours can be significantly modified through a curriculum syllabus incorporating the analysis and discussion of the consequences of unethical business behaviours. Using a sample of 250 students from 4 business-related higher education studies, we explore the opportunities of using different learning methods and resources to introduce ethical issues in the higher education curricula. Our results confirm the suitability and the good reception of these practices from the student's point of view and explore the specific content and issues in order to promote and maximize ethical decision-making. Additionally, we detect significant differences between the impact and effectiveness of different learning resources to introduce ethics into diverse core courses related to business and economy. These results have important implications for policymakers and higher education institutions who have important responsibilities and opportunities to avoid future business scandals.
