Abstract:
The educational innovation described in this work has been applied to the final project carried out in the Wind Energy course during the 4th year of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree. The activity “Challenge: Design your wind turbine” aims to reach the three stages of the students’ learning process (cognitive, psychomotor and emotional). Once the theoretical sessions are finalized (cognitive stage), students are organized in teams to compete in designing and building an optimal wind turbine according to the Challenge’s parameters (psychomotor and emotional stage). Wind turbines are evaluated by assessing the experimental performance of the wind turbines in a controlled wind tunnel. Experimental results are used to simulate the wind turbine behavior during typical year. Team reports included an estimation of the benefits associated to energy, economic, environmental and social of the proposed wind turbine. During the learning process, both transversal and degree specific competences are assessed.
