Abstract:
Institute of Social Sciences, at the Department of Languages at Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, is taking part in the Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness: Innovation of didactic methods in the languages and soft skills education, supported by the European Union.
This paper is based on the activities within the above-mentioned programme and refers to the integration of face-to-face tuition and e-learning applied to less widely taught languages. The restructured lesson makes it possible to use modern technologies to a large extent. During the lessons the following technologies are applied: PowerPoint presentations, an interactive board, the Internet and the i-Pack, the use of which will be explained in detail in the oral presentation.
Our innovative system of teaching, which blends face-to-face tuition with e-learning, allows students to extend and improve their knowledge gained in the face-to-face tuition and continue in their self-study in the convenience of their homes. This home work is provided by the online medium Moodle, in which students practise their language skills in interactive exercises and improve their knowledge in language skills taught in face-to-face classes. The described model has been developed for six foreign languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and German) at a variety of levels. The oral presentation will comprise practical demonstration of the individual activities offered on Moodle, shown on French and Russian courses for beginners.
