Abstract:
The aim of this paper is double. In the first place we will analyze the opinion of different groups of students about the methodological and assessment systems established by the European Space of Higher Education. In this sense, we have carried out a survey among 828 students registered in a compulsory course of first year of the new degrees of ADE (Business Studies), TADE (Business and Tourism studies) and DADE (Business and Law Studies). 456 students (representing the 55%) answered the survey. In second place, it is not less important to analyze the success or failure rate of our students following these new methodologies. In order to do this we have checked objective data, basically the final qualifications of the students.
Following the opinion of the students the methodologies more useful are those more characteristic of the process of traditional teaching, while the activities that require a more autonomous work are not of their pleasure. From the assessment system they like mainly that it is adapted to the basic contents of the course and that it is a continuous assessment, with several partial exams. The students’ success has experienced a slight advance with the new methodologies, mainly because the number of students that do not present to the total assessment is getting lower.
Differences are perceived in the answers of the different groups of students, and we believe that they are explained by the vocational choice of the attended studies. On the other hand, we have detected a series of drawbacks for the correct application of the educational methodology, such as the disproportion in the number of students in each group, the changes of schedules, or the fact that groups were divided with different professors. These hindrances should be eliminated or minimized in order to improve the results achieved by the students in the course.
