Abstract:
Education faces many challenges in the current period of the Covid-19 pandemic, whether we are thinking about primary schools, high-schools or universities. The transfer of knowledge, skills and competence building is moving to the virtual environment much more often. As the pandemic situation worsens, students and teachers in each country are moving to online teaching, and innovative approaches to teaching, such as computer-based methods of teaching and the use of special software, are being implemented in teaching practice. The introduction of innovative approaches to assessment practices for measuring progress in student education must also correspond to this. Formative assessment (FA), which is based on feedback, contributes to the development of self-regulation of student education even in the time of online teaching.

In this paper, the authors focus on higher education and the corresponding student evaluation. They describe their experience with the use of special application software in creating online testing of students, specifically through the Moodle platform. They emphasize the implementation of open-ended questions that activated students rather than multiple-choice questions. If innovative approaches to teaching do not go hand in hand with new assessment systems and methods that constructively reflect new goals in higher education, innovation may not have a lasting effect.
