Abstract:
In order for the education of a pupil with a hearing impairment to be successful, it is necessary to use not only pedagogical, but also psychological and special pedagogical diagnostics, which in our case is performed by workers in special pedagogical centres for the hearing impaired. Despite the fact that children and pupils with already diagnosed hearing impairments come to the special pedagogical centre, it often happens that the results of the phoniatric examination do not correspond with the performance in the field of speech comprehension. However, this area is crucial for the development of speech and the education of pupils with hearing impairments. If an employee of a special pedagogical centre wants to focus more deeply on the frequency domain or examine the comprehension of speech in an open file, he creates his own set of words or sentences.

The aim of the research was to create a diagnostic tool aimed at determining the level of understanding of the speech of the child and the pupil in a closed and open set of words. The essence was to create a battery of words, phrases and sentences for pupils from 10 years of age, and picture tests for pupils under 10 years of age in several sets. The verification of the diagnostic tool took place in the special pedagogical centre of Ostrava and Olomouc and a qualitative approach was used in the research. The results of testing showed the degree of comprehension of speech in ideal listening conditions, which were translated into the possibility of understanding the student in school conditions.
