Abstract:
This work shows the results of a educative technology project at the School of Engineering of UNAM to produce interactive models within the concept of an immersive mathematics laboratory aimed at the undergraduate level for Analytical Geometry. The main objective of this laboratory are to reinforce the capacities of studends in the experimental methods, by using available and innovative technologies. The concept has been implemented using an immersive approach with the virtual world Second Life, and designed by an interdisciplinary team comprised by lecturers as well as 3D content developers . In an introductory section, the requirements and needs for this project are presented. Then, an overview of the implementation process and the interaction with the domain experts from the coordination of mathematics at the School is introduced. Finally some remarks about the immediate results and future impact that can be drawn from this experiences, and its possible expansion into more areas of engineering education is discussed at the end of the work.
