Abstract:
In the paper the results of a survey conducted at a university are presented and analyzed. The survey covered questions about what activities constitute the research process (field/laboratory experiments, literature review, modeling, computational experiments, preparing publications, correcting publications etc), which and how many resources (e.g. time, computers, materials, data bases, library bases, travels) they use, how often they are performed, as well as which products (publications, posters, internal reports, patents, technology implementations etc.) they deliver and how those products are and should be evaluated. The results differ according to the research domain. Such domains as technology, economics, arts are distinguished. The paper will also contain proposals as to how evaluate the effectiveness of research activities, taking into account the ratio products quality/resources used and the specificity of the research domain.
