Abstract:
The Defense University Center at the Naval Academy, attached to the University of Vigo, has a special idiosyncrasy within the University Centers. It is a University Center where mechanical engineering degree is taught but students are also future officers of the Spanish Navy and they are under a military regime of life. Classroom lessons, labs, seminars, tutorials ... and in general any teaching activity must adapt to this feature.
Moreover as University Center a priority is to adapt teaching methods to the new European Higher Education Area where students spend more time on self-study and teachers teach fewer classes.
To meet these assumptions and facilitate self-study to students, a subject of the degree of mechanical engineering is designed using information and communication technology based-on tools. Among the used tools are: knowledge pills, e-learning platforms, webquests, flash-cards ...
This paper describes how to use these tools on teaching "Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer." This subject is taught in the second year of the degree of mechanical engineering of the Defense University Center at the Naval Academy.
We present the design of the course indicating the technique used in each block of the subject, a summary of the tools and the evaluation method used in the subject. Keywords:
