Abstract:
This study aimed at investigating the effective leadership in school administration and teachers’ commitment to work in Public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The correlational research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised all the teachers (6,292) in the public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State. The instrument used for data collection from 200 respondents was a structured questionnaire titled “Effective Leadership and Teachers’ Commitment to Work Questionnaire” (ELTCWQ). Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics at 0.05 level of significant. The result of the study revealed that staff/students crisis and facilities maintenance management skills have significant relationship with teachers’ commitment to work in the study area. Based on these results, it was recommended that secondary school administrators should adopt effective leadership skills to enhance teachers’ morale for commitment to their work in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
