Abstract:
Modern teaching and learning methods are a challenge for every professor in the classroom and a real pleasure for students. In geography, these methods have their importance even more when their use helps to increase student performance. This article highlights the role of modern teaching and learning methods in the educational process in Romanian secondary schools. The research was conducted on a sample of 367 people (teachers, pupils, and parents) selected from three secondary schools, from Bucharest, Romania. The methods and data collection tools were: survey-based questionnaire, observation, and experiment. Some of the results of the research are the followings. Most pupils participating in the research, following the use of modern methods at geography, have higher school performance as compared with the ones that do not use such methods. Pupils were more involved in all activities taking place at classes, as evidenced by the grades obtained both in the first part and in the second part of the research period. Also, the number of pupils with appropriate behaviors has increased, showing interest in school activities and adapting better to different school situations. The paper presents the quantitative and qualitative studies that were made, together with the analysis of the results and conclusions. The results of this research provide insights into the opinions of teachers, pupils, and parents regarding the use of the modern teaching and learning methods in the educational process in secondary schools.
