Abstract:
The article is based on the experience of foreign languages further education in the higher education area, in particular, in the “Language center”, the structural department of Southern Ural State University (Russian Federation). The authors dwell upon the development of foreign language further education (in theory and practice), its history over the past 25 years. The focus is on the relevance of foreign languages further education for representatives of various social, age and professionally oriented groups of the Russian population. The material for the analysis gives an outline of statistical data that show the degree of interest in learning specific European languages (English, Italian, Spanish, German, French) or Eastern languages (Arabic, Chinese) at different times, which reflects the stages of Russia's integration into the international cultural and economic community. The authors of the present article pay special attention to the level of motivation of various social groups in the area of foreign languages further education. The analysis includes such factors as age, area of basic education, education level, occupation, marital status, etc.
