Abstract:
Creating an English textbook for aspiring professionals in particular fields is a demanding task as it requires the authors to generate learning material that can help in the development of linguistic competencies along with the skills required to fulfil the responsibilities of particular jobs.

This implies that the primary purpose of such a textbook should be to prepare university students for their future professions as well as enable them to meet the challenges of their professions relatively quickly after they graduate. Therefore, this study analysed the authors’ experience of creating an ESP textbook for students of an international university (namely, MGIMO-University, Russia) who were pursuing a master’s degree in public relations and were advanced learners of English.

The study considered all the stages involved in the creation of an ESP textbook, i.e., the conceptualisation, general project management, choice of the format, and its unification throughout the book.

Furthermore, it dwelled on the issues related to generating learning material and focused on the methodological approaches that could be used to help the students develop the competencies of future specialists as well as enable them to be successful in their careers at an international level.

Additionally, the study also outlined which kind of language exercises could be used to tackle the issues of developing analytical skills related to project management, which, along with advanced linguistic competencies, are in high demand in this rapidly changing world.
The study concluded by presenting possible developments in the field of ESP.
