Abstract:
Bulgaria is the third country in Europe by total number of cultural and historical documents and one of the important problems is their preservation and restoration. The task set for the Bulgarian culture by the present time is urgent because the preservation of the cultural legacy is a serious problem which cannot be postponed. We are obliged to look for ways to preserve and make available to the Bulgarian nation and to the international cultural society our rich cultural relics on paper, parchment etc.
The restoration and conservation of the jeopardized Bulgarian written and culture legacy include a complex of actions: preliminary exploration of the documents, i.e. examination of the natural content and the qualities of the materials the books are made of, their condition, the degree and the character of the destructive processes, direct restoration intervention, related to the minimum possible interference with the document structure, conservation - the restored material have to be stored under optimal regime and digitalization of the so-called special collections, including manuscripts, documents, photos, old and rare printed editions and etc.is a worldwide accepted method for preservation of valuable collections.
The document "Plan of Sofia" since 1936 is part of the written heritage of Sofia-Bulgaria.The document is in satisfactory condition. The reasons for destruction are due on the one hand to the changes that occur as a result of regular aging processes of organic matter, and on the other - to the changes that take place under the influence of the environment. These are physico-chemical destructive processes that develop under the action of external factors such as temperature, humidity, light, atmospheric gases, mechanical stress, stress and bio -corrosion. After disinfection, visual and physico-chemical analysis, various conservation procedures were performed - mechanical cleaning, water treatment, deacidification, strengthening and subsequent restoration.
The restored document measuring 120/90 centimeters is placed in a framed environment for long-term storage and exposure.
Our ambition and final goal is to establish the University Library and Information Technologies as a leading national institution on conservation, as well as on popularization and research of the book heritage. Achieving the necessary technological level, it is very important for us to be leaders in the activities related to the expansion of the National Programme for Preservation and Digitalization of the Cultural Legacy of Bulgaria. Keywords:
