Abstract:
Assessment is a main component of the learning process, yet, traditional teacher-led approaches often limit student autonomy and reflection. This paper explores the impact of self-assessment on learner motivation and academic performance using a mixed-methods approach that combines survey data with student reflections. The findings indicate that self-assessment enhances intrinsic motivation, fosters self-awareness, and supports the development of self-regulated learning strategies. Students engaging in self-assessment demonstrate improved goal-setting and a positive trend in academic performance, although challenges in objective self-evaluation remain. Based on these findings, the study proposes the structured integration of self-assessment into classroom practice through clear criteria, guided reflection, and continuous teacher feedback. Overall, the research highlights the value of learner-centered assessment in promoting both motivational and academic outcomes. Keywords:
