Abstract:
Engaging students meaningfully in quality assurance and student support processes is crucial to building responsive, student‑centred higher education environments. This study examines how students acclimate to and participate in institutional engagement practices designed to enhance academic quality and support services. Employing a qualitative research design, data were collected through focus group discussions and semi‑structured interviews with postgraduate students. Thematic analysis revealed that students are more willing to engage when environments promote transparency, accessible communication, and relational trust. Participants highlighted that timely feedback, clarity of institutional processes, and opportunities for genuine dialogue strengthen their sense of belonging and ownership within the institution. Conversely, bureaucratic procedures, limited communication channels, and a lack of visible follow‑through on student input emerged as barriers to engagement. The study concludes that cultivating acclimating environments characterised by collaboration, responsiveness, and supportive interpersonal relationships is essential for enhancing student engagement in quality assurance and student support activities.
