Abstract:
Reading literacy is an essential part of every person's life. This means achieving the skill not only of understanding the text but also of thinking and further use to achieve other goals and active involvement in social life. The path to achieving this ability begins at an early age. In the curricular documents according to which 4th grade pupils are educated at primary schools, this literacy is included in the educational field of Czech language and literature. However, this article focuses on the development of reading literacy outside the Literary Education component. Most primary schools in the Czech Republic have clubs and hobby groups that, with the support of teachers, try to support (not only) reading literacy through active reading. All these voluntary clubs and hobby groups have the same goal. Therefore, it is beneficial to capture the structure and content of five different reading clubs and hobby groups at five different primary schools in the Czech Republic. At the same time, the paper also focuses on the possibility of making these leisure activities more attractive and gaining as many pupils as possible. In connection with this topic, research was also carried out at the Faculty of Education of Palacky University in Olomouc through a questionnaire with teachers who support these extracurricular activities. This questionnaire focused on the length of their experience and experience in this field. The primary goal was to find out what their motivation was for founding these clubs and hobby groups, whether they are satisfied with the current participation and, last but not least, what their view of the current level of reading literacy is. With the questionnaire, we also tried to find out what methods they most often use when working with children.
