Abstract:
Presentation will cover two separate development experiment where we in Aalto Teacher Services (https://www.aalto.fi/services/teacher-services-team) have used service design tools and methods to build better services to our academics and students. The main focus will be sharing our experiences in using service design, and present work that is done in Analytics Intelligence joint initiative (https://analytiikkaaly.fi/in-english/) to find new innovative ways to use learning analytics in support of teaching and learning.

Aalto Teaching Service point ie. Teaching hub service design process was developed and led by Markus Torkkeli, Helena Bäckman and Timo Ovaska. The basic idea was to design on-stop-shop for teachers & professors to provide them with a physical service point that will provide solution for all the most important educational technology related issues including pedagogical consultation and production of educational videos and VR. The iterative process included two design workshops involving people from different service units, and customer involvement: data gathering through interviews (25 alltogether). Teaching Hub started in Aalto University Learning Centre as a pilot stage service 20th of May 2019. (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6515319679320489984)

In student analytics dashboard development goal is to develop learning analytics services to students. As we know, not all data supports student wellbeing and study motivation. Therefore service design flavored and very student centered development process was introduced. Development process is linked Analytics Intelligence joint initiative (https://analytiikkaaly.fi/in-english/), Jiri Lallimo being project manager in Aalto University. The presentation will cover the philosophy and process of using service design, and sharing experiences and preliminary findings.
