Abstract:
AT EDULEARN 2013 our aim is to present preliminary findings from an ongoing study addressing various aspects on ICT in higher education. The overall objective of this study is to increase knowledge about how ICT can help enhance the quality of teaching and learning. In this, students’ and teachers’ attitudes, opinions, arguments and expectations related to several issues on ICT are explored, and framed in research questions such as;

• How do ICT affect learning and teaching situations?
• How do ICT contribute to increased teaching and learning outcomes?
• What do teachers and student consider as relevant digital literacy?

For academic staff we also address questions such as:
• What constitutes the formal framework for teaching with ICT (infrastructure, management, incentive schemes, individual skills development related to ICT in teaching)?
• What are the dominant media for communication (teacher – students; students to students?)

The study covers a broad approach to academic staff and students' activities and experiences in the use of ICT in teaching and learning activities. The study is based on a qualitative approach including a multi-case study approach (Yin, 2009) based on document analysis and focus group interviews with teachers and students from various higher education institutions in Norway. Both teacher-led and student-led activities are included in the study.
