Abstract:
The paper describes the implementation of sustainable development of schools on an example of evaluation of indicators of sustainable development in the primary school Joseph Gregor Tajovsky in Banska Bystrica (Slovakia). According to this, indicators (135 indicators) are divided into 4 main groups (management, education, health and social care, and indicators of operational feasibility), and 14 categories. The research in the above mentioned school was carried out in years 2010-2011. Our results show that there is a lack of sustainable development provision for the indicators of operational feasibility. On the other hand, there is a great increase in sustainable development within the area of management. Indicators of improvements were reported for the areas of education. According to the results, significant stagnation was reported for the area of health and social care. Overall, it is recommended to implement complex strategies such as Deming Cycle (the principle proposed for continuous quality improvements) in all assessed areas, in order to creative more effective management for sustainable development. It was also concluded that it would be beneficial for the school to implement into their strategic programme a model of Participatory Environmental Management (PEMA), to develop school’s eco-codex, and to apply complex control quality/management.
