Abstract:
This work is part of a general project that aims to gather enough information about using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in the classroom in order to improve the current educational systems. ICT enhances the understanding of the contents in the various areas and provide access to information from anywhere, and anytime. Meanwhile, students are much more attracted by the contents, increasing their motivation and facilitating collaborative work. At the Universitat Politècnica de València we are noticing a difference of knowledge regarding the use of digital resources among students when they arrive in our classrooms. Lack of confidence in the management of ICT is seen by certain groups of students. We have considered the necessity to investigate the ICT tools that are used in our region private schools because these centers have a great flexibility to incorporate the resources deemed appropriate for student learning, to see if the level of familiarization and skills in its use is correct or are creating a gap which constitutes an obstacle to access to higher levels of training and involves loss of time, frustration, marginalization and / or school failure. These are skills which are evaluated only in the context of a syllabus but do not allow us to know the practical use of them actually do. There is not a curricular requirement in the learning plan to determine which digital resources to use in order to progress in the various scholar stages. The use of technology in schools is usually carried out in specific areas or spaces specifically designated for this purpose, for example computer rooms, as a syllabus that is not linked to the others ones. This paper presents the actual situation in Valencia region, from the earliest stages, in the use of ICT and other electronic devices. We have consulted the educational responsible of several centers through a survey designed for this purpose and analyze the information obtained using statistical tools to check the implementation of these technologies and help in decision to incorporate more homogeneous methods in learning and the use of ICT in all phases of education.
