Abstract:
This paper evaluated the impact of the programme initiated to Nurture Physical Sciences educators enhancing teaching teacher practices within Nkowankowa in Limpopo Province. The study focused on Physical Sciences educators, how the programme enabled educators to use strategies that actively engage students in learning Physical Sciences and encourages classroom visits to observe how things are and also how Physical Sciences is taught. 30 educators participated in the completion of questionnaires and nine were interviewed. A mixed method approach with an exploratory design was used in this study, where questionnaires, document analysis and interviews were used. Findings reveal that the programme had positive impact on how educators use strategies that actively engaged learners and how classroom observations assisted in improving learner performance. This was shown by how students were actively engaged during teaching and learning. The positive impact was also shown through the improved learner performance in Physical Sciences. The programme proved to be a successful initiative and therefore it is recommended that the Provincial Department of Education can use it as one of its initiatives to improve learner performance within their schools.
