Abstract:
In the contemporary landscape, educating mothers on mental health during maternity leave emerges as a pivotal facet, particularly within culturally entrenched norms like those observed in Slovakia. Here, the tradition of home-based childcare, extending up to three years, stands as a unique practice, perceived by many as advantageous. Yet, this model also entails a notable hiatus in professional development for mothers who opt to prioritize household and childcare responsibilities during their child's formative years. It's imperative to acknowledge that fostering personal growth and nurturing mental well-being are not only essential during a woman's active career phase but also constitute fundamental requisites for mothers on maternity leave.

This contribution zeroes in on scrutinizing prevailing trends in mental health education for mothers during maternity leave. Through qualitative interviews with 26 mothers on maternity leave, this study illuminates the opportunities and challenges perceived by mothers in leveraging mental health education. Drawing from these insights, the discussion pivots towards envisaging potential advancements in educational initiatives aimed at bolstering mental health support within Slovakia's context.
