Abstract:
Climate change is likely to increase the frequency and severity of disasters in the future. Central Europe and the Slovak Republic is one of the places where the effects of climate change are also manifested. It is necessary to educate people about the possible consequences of climate change and ways of protection and response options. In principle, there can be mitigation measures and adaptation measures adopted. The general public usually has some information and knowledge about what kind of specific mitigation and adaptation options they can adopt. However, the level of this knowledge vary due to different factors and across different population groups (children, students, adults, pensioners, etc). In this article, the focus is on university students and assessment of their knowledge about climate change and adaptation measures. Analysis of the students’ knowledge was carried out by means of a questionnaire survey. Based on its results, options for educations and for strengthening students’ knowledge and awareness regarding climate change and adaptation measures are recommended.
