Abstract:
Relevance. Bachelors` training for light industry enterprises requires the formation of their professional competencies, knowledge of market trends and problems of Russian industries as well as the development of students` independence, creativity, purposefulness and innovative thinking. It is necessary for undergraduate students to take an active part in technical creativity and in the implementation of R&D using STEM Education. It seems perspective to establish University`s Engineering Research Bureau (ERB) for the bachelors` training to solve problems and implement light industry projects given by partner enterprises, under the supervision of graduate students and young specialists of the University departments.
The objective is to develop a procedure for organizing bachelors` educational process which includes the implementation of STEM projects in ERB. Tasks: to determine the advantages of involving students in ERB work and their participation in STEM projects; to identify industrial projects implemented by bachelors; to develop a new procedure for organizing bachelors' training and to demonstrate the presence of each element of STEM education while bachelors fulfil their projects in ERB.
Methodology:
A retrospective analysis of scientific research was used to substantiate the advantages of combining education with R&D for bachelors` training. The practical experience of universities was systematized to confirm the purposefulness of involving students in the work of ERB and using STEM Education. Conceptual modeling was carried out to develop the procedure for organizing bachelors' training with the implementation of STEM projects in ERB.
Results:
The purposefulness of bachelors` training with simultaneous participation in R&D on the principles of STEM education was scientifically and practically substantiated. A model for organizing bachelors` training with the implementation of STEM projects on the problems of light industry enterprises in ERB was proposed. A procedure for bachelors` training appointing the roles of the customer enterprise, teachers of the department, ERB supervisors and students was developed. It is demonstrated how each STEM element is implemented in bachelors` project work on the problems of “KazKhimNII” enterprise in ERB.
Conclusion:
The results of the presented study are useful to universities interested in organizing bachelor's training with participation in R&D projects on the problems of partner enterprises. The developed procedure for bachelors` training with their work in ERB can be adopted as a model-basis to spread the experience of combining education with R&D.Keywords:
