Abstract:
This article is based on the results of a continuous teacher training course developed under the Erasmus+ project: Empathic and supportive teachers – key to quality and efficiency in education (EMPAQT) . The main aim of the project was to contribute to the creation of learning environments that foster equity and inclusion, where disadvantaged learners receive the support they need to succeed and feel respected and valued. The training course was designed in international partnership (Bulgaria, Italy, Malta, Romania, Turkey) in order to address one hand, the needs of the teachers as professionals to obtain pedagogical support to enhance their skills for creating positive and supporting learning environment, which increases students’ resilience against difficulties. On the other hand, the training course addressed the needs and deficits of the young people in disadvantaged situation who need support and coaching for constructing positive self-concept, setting realistic personal goals and for building strategies for achieving well-being through education and professional realization. The course was designed based on a need analysis conducted in international context, addressed to pupils and teachers. The results of the Romanian need analysis were presented at the XIX Congress AMSE-AMCE-WAER in June 2018. In Romania, the course was dedicated to school counsellors and teachers and within this article we will present the Romanian experiences related to the course, with a focus on the structure, the monitoring and evaluation strategy, based on the results collected by questionnaires and by self-reflecting diaries filled by the 16 Romanian participants. Conclusions will be drawn in relation to results and good practices as well as in relation to the implementation of the new Romanian Guidance and counselling curriculum for secondary education approved in February 2017.
