Abstract:
At the Veracruzana University, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, students need to take two English courses compulsorily at their learning careers. Seven Language Centers and eleven Self-Access Centers on all the campuses through the State of Veracruz have played a crucial role as students take these English courses there. The variety of learning environments such as on site, autonomous, blended, and online courses offered in these centers has provided more learning opportunities to cover university students’ needs. As a means of learning a foreign language in these centers, this paper explores the use of technology for learning foreign languages in Language Centers and Self-Access Centers at the Veracruzana University in the last five years. It also describes three successful foreign language learning practices at different learning environments. It follows a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of using technology for learning foreign languages found at Language Centers and Self-Access centers at the Veracruzana University. Finally, this papers ends up with some remarks on the use of technology and some implications for future research.
