A REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT WITH IPAD INITIATION IN FIRST AND FIFTH GRADE CLASSROOMS
In recent years, the usage of iPads has spread rapidly with the potential to enhance learning in the world. Similarly in Turkey, the Ministry of Education initiated “Movement of Enhancing Opportunities and Improving Technology”, known as FATIH project, which brings tablets into 42,000 public k12 schools. Following the ICT movement in public schools, a chain of private school organization with a total of 34 schools initiated iPad applications in first and fifth grade classrooms at the beginning of the 20132014 academic year. However, little is known about how teachers implement iPads into their curriculum. This paper attempts to identify what potentials as well as obstacles this new movement brings to the classroom setting in terms of teaching and learning. The data are being collected through an online survey, classroom observations and semi-structured informal interviews with the teachers and school administrators. This study is expected to enlight all educators by informing them about the teachers’ attitudes, problems, suggested solutions of the implementation strategies and the impact of iPad use in learning environments.
