Abstract:
This article narrates the need of financial literacy in female adult learners to mitigate gender-based violence in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is fundamental to know why financial literacy is important to advise Community Colleges in ways they can adopt fresh strategies that will help adult female learners gain their financial independence. The design was an emergent one in the sense that the exact way of applying the research emerged during the study. This article followed feminist research methodology. The required research data were gathered using focus groups with twenty female adult female learners who agreed to take part in this article. The research findings revealed that female adult learners still experience instances of gender-based violence because they highly depend on their spouses or boyfriends financially. Their viewpoints therefore proposed that financial literacy are required in Community Colleges to enable adult female adult learners gain knowledge on traditional financial information on intimate partner violence and economic abuse.
