Abstract:
One of the most important parts of the learning and teaching process is the assessment of students' knowledge and skills. It enables to determine the compliance with the requirements of the student achievement based on the curriculum and subject standard. Evaluation reveals not only the students’ achievements, their progress, but also the shortcomings in their development, various problems, thus providing the teacher with versatile information. Objective assessment of knowledge and skills promotes to achieve the goal. It reinforces the desire to maximize self-realization and creates the opportunity to establish a dignified place within a society. Accordingly, the assessment of students' knowledge and skills and their purposeful application in the education process has a significant place.

Student assessment system remains one of the most pressing issues today, since the role of assessment, the purpose of the learning process and the underlying paradigms are not completely defined. The role of the assessment is important because it allows the teacher to identify and determine the means by which he or she should achieve the desired outcomes. Developmental assessment is particularly interesting because it enhances the learner's reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of the teaching process. Thus facilitating student’s activation and self-monitoring. Students' thinking and cognitive processes becomes more visible to both students and teachers. This facilitates the teacher in selecting appropriate methods and teaching resources. At the same time it helps students to understand what they are learning and how well they are learning; it promotes determine whether a child is ready to apply knowledge and skills to new situations. It contributes to the students' self-assessment and peer assessment skills; it gives comfort and confidence to the student when expressing their opinions in public.

The research was conducted in the 7th and 8th grades of public schools N 15 and 2 in Batumi. Research methods: observation, questionnaire, advanced experience study, focus groups. The purpose of the study was to identify students' needs by using specific developmental assessment tools and giving them specific recommendations on improving the quality of the study thus achieving a high academic level. In order to determine the effectiveness and benefits of evaluation, especially development evaluation, we conducted a focus group study among students, teachers and parents.

According to the research results analysis, the developmental assessment requires proper advanced preparation, preliminary preparation of the assessment criteria and its introduction to the students. Effective teaching planning involves providing students with activities appropriate to their interests, needs, attitudes or learning style. Developmental assessment enables us to respond to changes. It is constructive, learner motivating, providing students with information on learning outcome improvements, promoting adequate self-evaluation and success.
