Abstract:
The increased importance of knowledge has become recognized as a key source of company growth. With this trend, the university-industry relationship has become an important issue, as a result firms have enhanced their research cooperation with universities. The paper presents a model of interdisciplinary cooperation to solve the complex problems of industry.

This project has been carried out by interdisciplinary research teams with business cooperation in order to create and commercialize a new product. This project is devoted to an intelligent integrated system supporting process management and the maintenance of passenger lifts with the application of predictive analytics solutions. The system will be dedicated to manufacturers of lifting equipment, companies dealing with the servicing and maintenance of these devices and building administrators. The innovative elements of the system are an information converter between the elevator control system and the base event data, the database itself and a forecasting model for assessing and predicting the failure of passenger lifts. The system will predict service events based on extensive inference algorithms.

An university-industry collaboration framework evolved through this project and that is the subject of this paper. A step by step approach of how this framework has evolved and was implemented is presented in detail in the paper. The article concludes with recommendations for academics and practitioners.
