E. Tartari

Aleksander Moisiu University, Durrës (ALBANIA)
Facebook is the most popular social network in the world. This site has become part of social and cultural life of all its users. Even in Albania, this network is widely used among different ages. This study aims at showing the involvement of students in Facebook, their activities, as well as examining the main students’ motifs supported by uses and gratifications theory. Data were collected through a descriptive research on behavior of Albanian students. Results indicated that the vast majority of students spent a lot of time on FB and they used this social network for different activities. (E.g. to communicate with friends and relatives; post statues, photos, links; play games; take different information …). Student are motivated by virtual companionship escape, interpersonal habitual entertainment, self-description, self-expression, information seeking, passing time gratifications and the establishment of a new online reality that they desire, not where they actually live in. The survey is conducted in several major cities in Albania, so we cannot generalize for the whole country so the suggestions are made for further research
