Abstract:
Musical acoustics is a branch of physics which studies the wave phenomena related to the field of music. This field is applied in order to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Nowadays, one of the mean educational targets is the comprehension of this phenomena by high degree music students only with easy mathematics tools.
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the empiric relationship of Bernouilli’s laws between the sound frequency of a pipe with its length and the propagation speed of its contained gas. The chosen instrument is a trombone.
Therefore, this experiment has been made up of two different parts. On one hand, there is an analysis of the eigenmodes of a pipe with similar dimensions as a trombone. On the other hand, there is an experimental section, where the trombone would be used in order of obtaining the length-frequency relationship.
In this way, both theoretical and experimentally analysis would be made to relate frequency and length of the trombone pipe. With this experiment, it would be shown that equation of open-open pipe is obeyed. The trombone without transpositor is used in order to simplify the method. Keywords:
