Translating English text into Malay language is one aspect that must be learned and is one question must be answered by the Sixth Form students who took the Malay language subject, especially in the Sixth Form Center in Negara Brunei Darussalam. However, translating a text into another language is difficult. It requires students to understand the context of the original language (English) in the text well so that the translation produced not deviate from the true meaning contained in the original language. In order for these students be able to provide an accurate translation and make a significant achievement, they need to have an effective learning strategy. Therefore, this study aims to explore the recurring strategy used by students in helping them to translate English text into Malay and their relationship with their performance in translation. A set of questionnaire containing language learning strategy adapted from Oxford (1990) used to achieve this, and this questionnaire distributed to fifty-nine Sixth Form students, who took the Malay language subject for year 2011. Results from these questionnaires showed that these Sixth Form students often use memory strategy in helping them to translate the text as compared to other five strategies. In addition, this study also found that there is a significant correlation between the strategies they used with their achievements in translation.
