Abstract:
Since the COVID-19 emergency, many of us have had to know and use new technologies. Technological devices (mobile phones, pcs, tablets, etc.) have become our best friends, in the business and in the technological field, this condition produced a continuous interaction between us and the screen.

For many years the information revolution and its potentiality wants to enter in the school system through numerous projects promoted by the Ministry of Education and Research, certainly the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated these digitization processes. The Italian school, characterized mainly by traditional teaching, has necessarily had to change its operating methods and use information and communication technologies in a creative way, in relation to the complex objectives to be achieved. With the Ministerial Decree n. 39 of 26 June 2020, distance learning has become Integrated Digital Education, all education systems, from childhood to university, have therefore had to use DL (Distance Learning) for the first time. Online lesson represents a form of on-line teaching, through Internet connections, in synchronous and asynchronous mode, consequently, it cannot be implemented as a simple reproduction of traditional school classrooms.

Distance learning offers a different representation of the teaching-learning process: it requires an innovative approach to create learning situations in which students can develop knowledge, skills and competences in full autonomy. Distance learning offers a different representation of the teaching-learning process: it requires an innovative approach to create learning situations in which students can develop knowledge, skills and competences in full autonomy. At this point it is legitimate to ask: Is the Learning Distance really a recent "invention"? From these reflections, this contribution aims to start from a historical excursus on distance learning to identify, without claiming to be exhaustive, the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning, in order to transfer the benefits and improvements in the teaching and training field.
