Abstract:
In response to the global impact of COVID-19 on higher education institutions, there has been a paradigm shift in integrating online modalities into academic courses. Over the past three years, our institution has hosted metaverse-based debriefing sessions designed for PBL (Project-Based Learning) courses. The metaverse environment, meticulously constructed by the students participating in the debriefing, mimics the physical campus environment in its architectural structure, decor, and spatial arrangement. These sessions serve as a platform for presenting various projects, including website design, application development, and corporate public relations. This article describes the configuration of the metaverse-centered sessions and provides insights derived from this experiential domain. Conducted on three separate occasions and employing various formats, including on-stage presentations and poster sessions within the metaverse, our examination of student engagement behaviors in this environment reveals a discernible reduction in discourse regarding presentation content compared to traditional face-to-face contexts.
