Abstract:
In this paper, we show which personality traits help students graduate, and propose development strategies.

We investigated the personality traits of computer science students. Our questionnaire focused on refresher students, and probed the following personality traits: coping skills, life satisfaction, student identity and relationships. We analysed the data from different aspects. We focused on what is the connection between life satisfaction and relationships among students. These are key elements for students in university life and it can be developed by training and mentor programs.

The dropout rate is high among computer science students around the world. A possible root cause is the lack of necessary skills and abilities. From our data, we derived the personality traits that successful students possess. Based on the results, our Student Support Program develops learning methods that foster student skills and thus reinforce student learning processes.

This program has already improved student performance: the target group had 9% better academic results than the control group. The results show that it is highly important to pay attention to refresher students by training and mentor programs because it can prevent students from dropping out.
