Abstract:
This study focused on the application of work related problems in mathematics for engineering students by investigating the content of Unit Guide as instructors’ guidelines, the application of work related problems in teaching strategies and its effects on students’ learning performance. It was conducted in one of the vocational and technical institutions in Brunei Darussalam which offers engineering courses. Data was collected by interviewing instructors, class observations and content analyses of teaching-related documents. The findings showed that instructors were not given sufficient teaching guidelines and resources, work related problems were not well-presented in teaching materials and students were not given sufficient preparation in relation to experience in work related problems. These findings would greatly benefit in improving the instructors’ awareness of the importance of work related problems for their students. Keywords:
