Abstract:
Professional practical teaching in a clinical teaching environment is an important part of undergraduate education of nursing students. The clinical learning environment provides nursing students with opportunities to acquire clinical skills and acquire professional competencies. In order to successfully manage professional practical teaching in a clinical teaching environment, quality theoretical preparation of students, careful organization of practical teaching and guidance of students by qualified clinical mentors are necessary.

The main aim of the research was to determine the evaluation of the practical teaching environment and the role of the mentor in the clinical teaching environment of undergraduate nursing students. The goal was achieved through a non-standardized questionnaire survey based on the standardized questionnaire survey CLES + T (clinical learning environment environment, supervision and nurse teacher), which assesses the quality of the teaching environment in clinical practice, the role of mentor and clinical practice teacher.

The non-standardized questionnaire was created through Google forms and contained 18 closed research questions focused on the environment of practical teaching and mentoring of students in the clinical teaching environment, including finding out the overall satisfaction of students with practical teaching. Data collection took place in the spring of 2021 at three medical faculties in the Czech Republic. After obtaining the consent to conduct a research survey from the management of the faculties, the questionnaire was electronically distributed to nursing students in the 1st - 3rd year of full-time undergraduate education to their common e-mail addresses. During the month of June, a total of 82 completed questionnaires were statistically processed. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis test at a statistical significance level of 0.05%. Out of the total number of 18 research questions, 8 of them were focused on the evaluation of the clinical teaching environment and 10 on the evaluation of mentoring by students. Based on the conducted questionnaire survey, the obtained data were completed and represented using clear tables and bar graphs. The result was the ascertainment of the overall satisfaction of the majority of students with the completed practical training in the clinical teaching environment. The more satisfied the nursing students were with the given professional teaching in the clinical teaching environment, the more positively they evaluated the individual items of the questionnaire survey. The majority of students positively assessed the environment of clinical practice as a good teaching environment, as well as the relationship with the mentor, which changed according to the clinical workplace.
